When someone scans it, their phone offers to open the point in its maps app, so they get directions to the exact spot rather than a typed address that might be ambiguous, unnamed, or simply wrong in the map provider's database.

The phone uses its default maps app: typically Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android. The geo format is app-neutral, so the scanner is never forced into a specific provider.
